John Wayne est un personnage emblématique de la culture américaine du héros. Il fut très engagé dans la propagande de guerre des Etats-Unis, allant jusqu'à produire des films entièrement subventionnés par l'armée américaine. Et dans ce cadre là, il servit de modèle d'héroïsme pour toute une génération d'américain, ces films faisant partie de la formation des soldats. Il nous a semblé pertinent de réactiver ces images au regard de la politique américaine actuelle, constatant une persistance dans l'image donnée par les médias de l'armée et de l'héroïsme. John Wayne, dans ses films comme dans sa vie fut un personnage controversé.
Il se retrouve ici, au travers d'un "sample" d'images du film de Darryl F. Zanuck, le jour le plus long, confronté à lui-même, à sa propre image dans un rapport qui tourne John Wayne en ridicule. L'emphase du personnage est soutenue par la chevauchée des Walkyries de Wagner. Le collage de ces deux éléments joue de la référence au contexte, à l'histoire et à l'utilisation qui fut faite de ces deux oeuvres.

John Wayne is an iconic character of American culture hero. He was very involved in the war propaganda of the United States, up to produce films fully subsidized by the U.S. military. And in this framework, he served as a model of heroism for an entire generation of American, these films are part of the training of soldiers. It seemed appropriate to reactivate the images under the current U.S. policy, noting a persistence in the image given by the media and the military heroism. John Wayne in his films like his life was a controversial figure. It is found here, through a "sample" of images of movie Darryl F. Zanuck, The longest day, facing himself in his own image in a report that John Wayne turned into ridicule. The emphasis of the character is supported by the Ride of the Valkyries by Wagner. The bonding of these two plays of the reference to context, history and the use made of these two works.
